Man Swims Through Massive Jellyfish Swarm During 25-mile Swim Across Monterey Bay Print
Bruckner Chase came ashore at San Carlos Beach in Monterey on Tuesday evening after a 14-hour swim to raise awareness about the fragile nature of the local marine environment.

Some of the creatures that live in this area made Chase really work for his 25-mile swim across Monterey Bay.

"I'm, like, 'Come on guys, I'm trying to help here,' " he said of a massive swarm of jellyfish that rose to the surface and threatened to stop his journey.

Chase was first stung about an hour into a swim that began in his hometown Santa Cruz before dawn. The jellies became more dense and the stings more frequent, so a determined Chase put on a wetsuit handed to him by those aboard a boat that traveled by his side.

But that only protected his body, arms and legs. "I got stung on my tongue, inside my mouth, on my neck and my feet and hands," he said during an interview Wednesday morning, while parts of his body still itched and contained welts. "After the sun came up I did not take a single stroke in which I did not at least see a jellyfish."

A Whale of a Time Print
Imagine having a close encounter with three of the most amazing Arctic creatures in the animal kingdom. Sounds unreal, right? But at SeaWorld parks across the nation, this idea has become a reality.

During the tour, guests will learn all about these marvelous animals and go behind the scenes to see where they receive their care.

Into the Wild Arctic

The journey begins at the walrus exhibit, where visitors get a chance to feed the massive mammals. Next, guests get an inside look at the polar bear exhibit. These are the "dry" parts of the tour. Then, it's time for the highlight of the program: getting into the chilly waters with a beluga whale!

OCALA, Florida - A black bear cub in Florida affectionately known as "jarhead" can finally enjoy a good meal.

A clear plastic container was removed from the 6-month-old cub's head after being stuck for at least 10 days. The cub poked its head into the jar when digging through trash in a neighbourhood in central Florida.

Biologists say the cub was days away from death because the jar made it impossible to eat or drink. The team had to tranquilize the mother bear and then grab the cub to remove the jar from the bear's head.
