| WHY ARE POISON DART FROGS CALLED "POISON DART FROGS?" |
This frog is very poisonous, and it captures small prey, such as ants and mites, with its long, sticky tongue. Scientists believe the dart frog acquires its deadly toxin from these insects. Most dart frogs have bright colors like red, blue, green, yellow or even in a mixture of two different colors.

These amphibians are called "dart frogs" because the native people of Columbia, South America, used their toxic secretions to poison the tips of their blow darts when hunting.
